Castaway / Qalito Island (Mamanuca)

Lost Something Valuable on Castaway Island?

Single-Resort Island, Reef-Lined Lagoon — Recovery Across Qalito's Crescent and Bures.

Castaway Island (Qalito) is a single-resort Mamanuca property — Castaway Island Fiji owns the entire 174-acre island. The resort's bures (traditional thatched villas) wrap around a near-circular lagoon with a fringing reef and a long crescent of soft white sand. Ring Seekers Castaway reaches the island by boat or seaplane and works the entire frontage, the bure lawns, and the reef-flat snorkel zones.

Searching Across Castaway Island

Castaway Island is reached via the Castaway Island ferry from Port Denarau (45-minute crossing) or by Pacific Island Air seaplane (15 minutes). Both options are doable with prior arrangement; for high-urgency calls we book whichever sailing is next.

The island has a single beach orientation — a long curved crescent on the south face — with the bures arranged in clusters around it and the dive/snorkel jetty at the southern point. The reef is close in, exposing a coral-platform at low tide that's walkable for snorkel-spotting and ring-search alike.

Response time: 3–A few hours from Nadi via boat, 2–3 hours via seaplane.

We serve all areas of Castaway / Qalito Island (Mamanuca), including:

Common Search Locations on Castaway

The Crescent Beach

Castaway's main beach is a single connected curve — a clear search geography. Bure-edge sand, sun-lounger zones, and the wedding-pavilion approach all sit on it.

Bure Lawns and Decking

The traditional bure (villa) lawns and timber-deck steps lose rings during evening drinks and morning dressing.

Pool and Restaurant Deck

The Sundowner Bar and Water's Edge Restaurant both have timber decking with sand spillover — common loss zones.

Snorkel Jetty and Reef Flat

The southern jetty is the snorkel-departure point. The reef flat outside is a low-tide search zone.

Beach-Wedding Pavilion

Castaway's wedding pavilion sits on the crescent's quieter end. Ceremony and reception lawn sand are recovery zones.

Hobie Cat and Dinghy Hire Sand

Watersport hire happens off the central beach. Sand at the dinghy launch zone sees rings come off during boat boarding.

Understanding Castaway's Search Conditions

Single Beach Orientation

Simple geography but a long crescent. Loss-point precision is everything.

Soft White Coral Sand

Fine-grained coral sand compacts more tightly than mixed sand. Rings sink quickly under foot traffic.

Low-Tide Reef Flat

Walkable reef platform exposes at low tide for snorkel-zone recovery.

Lagoon Drop-Off

Outside the reef, the drop is sharp — anything that's actually offshore (beyond the reef) is unrecoverable. Inside the reef, very recoverable.

Cyclonic Sand Movement

Tropical-low conditions reshape Castaway's beach more than guests would expect. Items can be exposed metres from the loss point.

Bure Decking Drops

Many losses happen between deck planks. Recovery here uses thinner-coil detection and patience.
